Swedish firm eyes second Michigan biogas development

A Swedish biogas company is looking into the possibility of developing a second renewable energy facility in the state of Michigan, according to the state’s governor.
Visiting the Scandinavian country on a trade mission last week, Governor Jennifer Granholm said Swedish Biogas International AB was exploring the potential for an anaerobic digestion facility to turn municipal waste and farm waste into power.

The company already operates a facility in Flint, where material from the city’s wastewater treatment plant has been used to generate bioenergy since 2008, and this year operations were expanded to include agricultural waste.

Designated as one of Michigan’s Centers of Energy Excellence, the project involves collaboration with Linköping University in Sweden, Kettering University and the city of Flint.
