Sturgeon Bay: Biogas energy plant meeting postponed

A special Sturgeon Bay Plan Commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday was postponed to give the city more time to study plans for a biogas energy plant at the former Door County Highway Shop.

City staff met Friday with consultant Troy Runge of the Wisconsin Bioenergy Initiative and was waiting for additional materials before the commission meeting could be rescheduled, said Marty Olejniczak, the city community development director.

A special meeting is needed because of the lead time required for the number of permits Efrim Energy needs to construct a three megawatt facility, Olejniczak said. The commission needs to make a decision soon to allow owners time to meet standards and apply for the federal and state green energy incentives that brought Efrim to consider locating in Door County.
