Environmental Protection Ministry to Allocate 300 Million Shekels for Recycling and Waste to Energy Facilities

The Ministry of Environmental Protection has allocated 200 million shekels for assistance to local authorities and the private sector for the construction of waste treatment and recycling facilities and for the promotion of alternatives to the landfilling of organic waste. In addition, the Ministry will announce the allocation of an additional 100 million shekels for the establishment of sorting stations for municipal waste.

The financial support is part of a comprehensive plan for the separation of waste at source and its recycling which has been spearheaded by Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan. It is expected that half a billion shekels will be allocated for the program in the coming year alone.

Environmental Protection Minister Erdan: "This major financial support package will accelerate the establishment of the infrastructure needed to implement the recycling and waste separation revolution. This process will enable the optimal utilization of the waste as an economic resource for the preparation of compost for agriculture and the production of clean energy."
