Natural gas is an abundant source of energy that typically involves be drilled out of the ground; however, there has been a rise in the popularity of using biogas—the gas naturally given off by biological organisms—to serve the same function of energy generation to power and heat homes. Xebec Absorption Inc., “a global leader of clean energy solutions to corporations and governments looking to reduce their carbon footprint,” has opened a biogas treatment facility in southern California to cleanse the biogas emitted from sewage waste at a wastewater treatment facility in Escondido, CA.

Of the roughly 16,000 wastewater treatment facilities in the United States, approximately 540 have been identified as sufficient for biogas reclamation. Only two other U.S. facilities currently operate to cleanse biogas in a similar way as the Xebec facility. "Our revolutionary kinetic pressure swing adsorption technology enables us to remove nitrogen and oxygen in a single process step, while at the same time separating carbon dioxide and water," said Xebec President and CEO, Kurt Sorschak.
