Tennessee Valley Authority Adds Biogas

landfillLast year, we reported on the Tennessee Valley Authority’s involvement with an Iberdrola wind power project in Illinois. Now the historic power company is continuing to show that it’s in touch with the future of energy by broadening its renewables portfolio, courtesy of a landfill bio-gas facility owned by Waste Management Renewable Energy.

Under the terms of a 20 power purchase agreement, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) will add 4.8 megawatts of generating capacity to its renewables portolio via Waste Management’s landfill gas facility in Camden, Tennessee.  Waste Management Renewable Energy is the first participant in TVA’s new Renewable Standard Offer initiative for mid-size generators of biomass direct-combustion, co-firing or gasification; methane recovery and wind and solar projects with generation capacities between 201 kilowatts to 20 megawatts of electricity.
