Waste-to-energy facility soon for Grand Cayman

imageGEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands, Thursday December 30, 2010 – Grand Cayman is one step closer to having a waste-to-energy facility after a US-based company was awarded the contract to finance, build, own and operate one.

Wheelabrator Technologies Inc., which is owned by Waste Management Inc., beat out nine other companies who submitted bids and must now develop a comprehensive solid waste disposal management and waste-to-energy facility for Grand Cayman.

According to the tender document, the new facility should "generate electricity and other green energy by-products and implement a recycling programme”.
